Dating back hundreds of years, In Bavaria the brewing wheat beer was a monopoly reserved for the privileged Bavarian royalty.
Modern Weiss beer dates back to 1872 when this restriction was lifted and it has become a popular style today.
Light to deep gold, cloudy as the name denotes with “hefe” meaning yeast and “Weiss” meaning white, with a persistent white head
Moderate to strong phenols typically “clove” and fruity esters “Banana” no hop aroma. A wheat bready or grain like aroma is present with no other malt aromas.
You get the banana and clove sometimes you can get a bubble-gum flavour.
This beer finishes dry with Medium body and a fluffy texture made possible by the presence of the yeast. Which gives the perception of mouth feel.
Pale malt, at least 50% wheat malt , melanoiden malt + noble hops and a Weiss yeast that produce the typical spicy fruity character of this beer
